Dr. Kristen Hawley Turner

Dr. Turner, professor at Drew University in New Jersey, is a researcher and writer with numerous articles, book chapters, and guest blog posts that focus on the intersection between technology and literacy. She has co-authored Connected Reading: Teaching Adolescent Readers in a Digital Age (2015) and Argument in the Real World: Teaching Adolescents to Read and Write Digital Texts (2017). A consultant for the National Writing Project, Dr. Turner is the founder and director of the Digital Literacies Collaborative and a lead editor for the peer-reviewed professional blog Teachers, Profs, Parents: Writers Who Care. MATE is excited to bring Dr. Turner to Winnipeg to ignite this year’s conference theme.

Brenda Augusta

Brenda Augusta is an expert in supporting literacy and numeracy during the early and middle years of education. As an author, educator and skilled presenter, she has planned and delivered professional learning at both the system and school levels. She is committed to fostering teacher-leaders and encourages workshop participants to challenge assumptions, revisit current practices, and “raise the bar” on expectations for themselves and students. She recently co-authored Collecting Evidence and Portfolios: Engaging Students in Pedagogical Documentation. MATE is very fortunate to have Brenda share her innovative work at this year’s conference.
