SAG Remains Third Friday In October

MATE and other SAG groups expressed concern that moving the date to early October made the conference day too difficult to plan. Committee members would have to plan conferences in the summer, especially since September is such a busy month for teachers setting up their classrooms. As a result, few teachers would be willing to serve on the conference planning committee.

The following was a letter from Ian McIntyre regarding the matter:

February 10, 1999

MEMORANDUM

TO: SAG Presidents and Chairpersons

FROM: Ian MacIntyre, President

RE: SAG Conference Day

Please be informed that the Special Area Group Conference date will remain as the third Friday in October for 1999 and 2000.

I have heard from many of you with your concerns, not the least of which is narrowing of the timelines for organization. The Provincial Executive will also forward a resolution to AGM calling for the policy of the Society to return to the traditional SAG day.

Also, the Provincial Executive has agreed with SAG Council and passed interim policy for the 1999 Annual General Meeting, and will forward to the AGM a resolution to the effect that all business pertaining to SAGs be heard on Friday night.

I hope this information is helpful in your planning. Thank you for your many hours of volunteer time in organizing effective professional development opportunitities for the teacher in Manitoba.
